Key Differences between the 2018 Mazda6 and 2017 Mazda6
For the new model year, the Mazda6 saw a long list of updates. These include feature expansion, a new engine option, a new trim level, and new engine technology alongside revamps in design and layout. All-in-all, this new model year is a step towards the future of automotive technology. One of the most significant changes for this model year is the addition of a new engine option, the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T I4. This engine was previously only available in the crossover and SUV model lineup from Mazda. Now, this sedan gets the 250-horsepower, turbocharged engine as an optional upgrade in upper trim levels.
Speaking of trim levels, the new Mazda6 sees an addition to its trim spectrum. Now available in a Signature model grade, the new Mazda6 houses a host of new materials and features that rival luxury brands and place this model above its competitors in its segment. New Nappa leather and Sen wood accents adorn a meticulously designed cabin that emphasizes sophistication and refinement. This trim level comes as an addition to the existing trim spectrum that continues to include the Sport, the Touring, and the Grand Touring trim levels from the 2017 model year.
Another significant change for this model year is the introduction of standard cylinder-deactivation technology. This tech makes it possible for the outside two cylinders of the engine to shut down while the vehicle is operating at certain steady speeds. Then, when you need more power, the engine will automatically shift back to four-cylinder operation. This technology improves the efficiency of the Mazda6.
