Key Differences between the 2018 Mazda3 and 2018 Mazda6

The main difference as we already said is the size of the two models. If you want a larger sedan, more cargo space, and more leg room, choose the Mazda6. If you prefer a more compact model, choose the Mazda3. As an extension of the size of the bodies of each sedan, the Mazda3 and Mazda6 will give drivers access to different sized engines and different power ratings.

The Mazda3 will give you access to one engine option. This is a 2.5L I4 gasoline engine that will give you access to 185 horsepower. As a larger vehicle, the Mazda6 will give you access to a larger engine. New for the 2018 model year, the Mazda6 now offers both the 2.5L I4 engine that the Mazda3 comes equipped with and additionally offers a turbocharged engine option. This 2.5T I4 gasoline engine will give you access to 250 horsepower. Another difference between the two models is the addition of cylinder-deactivation technology to the Mazda6 lineup.

This new performance technology increases fuel efficiency by shutting down the two outside cylinders of the engine while the vehicle when operating at a steady speed between certain mph ratings. When you need more power, the engine will imperceptibly switch back to four cylinders.

The last difference we want to mention is the trim level lineup. The Mazda3 gives you access to three trim levels. These include the Sport, the Touring, and the Grand Touring. For the Mazda6 lineup, drivers will be able to choose from five trim levels. These are the Sport, the Touring, the Grand Touring, the Grand Touring Reserve, and the Signature trim level. The two additional trim levels in this lineup are luxury trim levels that are designed to rival luxury brands and will give drivers access to materials and features that are unavailable in the lower trim levels.
