Mazda CX-9 IIHS Rankings
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 had already earned a respectable and impressive IIHS Top Safety Pick rating, but Mazda wanted to keep improving. Now with updated and improved headlights, this Mazda crossover has snagged the Top Safety Pick+ title. In order to earn the top title from the IIHS, one of the requirements is that a vehicle must earn the highest rating of “Good” in the headlights category. This is what kept the CX-9 from originally attaining the top title. Now, Signature and Grand Touring models that have been built after June 2019 come equipped with these top-rated headlights.
Overall, in the second round of testing the 2019 CX-9 earned good ratings for the improved headlights, superior ratings for front crash prevention, and good ratings for overall crashworthiness. This updated ranking reflects the Mazda brand’s commitment to keeping its vehicles the safest on the road. Only four other crossovers with similar prices and sizes have earned the Top Safety Pick+ title from IIHS – Hyundai Palisade, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Telluride, and Subaru Ascent.
This IIHS rating for the 2019 Mazda CX-9 model will carry over into the 2020 model year for the CX-9. You can find your next 2019 CX-9 in the Serra Mazda online inventory today and book a test drive to experience the safety technology this vehicle has to offer.
